Anbernic RG557: All the details about the new portable console for retro games.

Anbernic has now revealed all the details of its first handheld gaming console, scheduled for release in 2025. The Anbernic RG557 is based on the RG556 and offers, among other things, increased performance, improved joysticks, and support for fast wired charging. Anbernic has confirmed that the RG557 will also be available in the US.

Earlier this week, Retro Game Corps reported that Anbernic had informed them of the release date and price of their first retro handheld console this year.

The Anbernic RG557 will be available for pre-order starting April 25 at 3:00 AM PDT (10:00 AM UTC). As expected, the starting price for the RG557 is $234.99 for shipping from warehouses in China or the USA. Alternatively, the wearable is available in transparent purple or white with a 256GB microSD card for $264.99. On April 28, Anbernic will increase the prices by $15 each to $249.99 and $279.99, respectively.

For context: The RG557 replaces the RG556 (currently $229.99 on Amazon) and features a 5.48-inch 1080p AMOLED display, a MediaTek Dimensity 8300 chipset, and 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM. Anbernic also equips it with 256GB of UFS 4.0 flash storage, Android 14, and a 5500mAh battery with 27W fast charging. The RG557 is powerful enough to emulate Wii U games, and thanks to Wi-Fi 6E, it’s also compatible with game streaming services like Nvidia GeForce Now.
